Title: "Data, Computing, and Transformation in the Financial Industry"
Abstract: We introduce some of the complex computational challenges we have solved at Goldman Sachs in the past 25 years, drawing parallels to well-known commercial products. We connect APIs, microservices, cloud services, & open source to the creation of a risk-transfer platform and the de-verticalization of monolithic sell-side financial firms in the wake of the financial crisis. Last, we consider the ecosystem of large banks, large technology companies, and “fintech” startups, extrapolating from the current state to future equilibrium states.
